On my way to Greenland…I took a flight from Boston, Massachusetts directly to Iceland. Great flight! I needed to meet up with Nik since he was flying into the domestic airport flying down from Þórshöfn, Iceland. The plan was to take a bus to BSI bus station. I had to wait several hours so instead of waiting at the airport with tons of restaurant options, WiFi, outlets to charge devices and free bathrooms as well as warm cozy spots to pass the time, Nik suggested to go directly to the bus station and eat in their restaurant.
This is what I found! It was boarded up. I sat in the cold bus station (doors frequently opening on both sides) but there was entertainment. I spent hours watching people try to access the bathroom. It cost 200 Icelandic Krone ($1.64)
Person after person walked up to the bar and pushed, looked around, and poked and pushed at things. Most gave up, one elderly man squeezed himself between the bars with the assistance of his wife. Some realized that coins or a credit card was required but still struggled to succeed. TIP: insert card into the bottom of the machine!
Spent one night in Reykjavik meeting up with my travel companions, had drinks in a pub then dinner at Public House Gastropub http://www.publichouse.is
The food was excellent! Hotel Frón was conveniently next door. http://www.hotelfron.is/ with nice accommodations.
